Description
Confucius (Kong Fuzi) was a Chinese philosopher and politician whose teachings, preserved in the 'Analects,' have deeply influenced the social, political, and philosophical foundations of East Asia. Living during a time of political chaos, he sought to restore order through a system of ethics based on family loyalty, social harmony, and respect for elders (filial piety). He emphasized the 'Golden Rule': 'Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.' Confucianism became the official state ideology of the Han Dynasty and shaped the imperial examination system for centuries. His focus on education, meritocracy, and the moral responsibility of rulers transformed Chinese governance and remains central to the cultural identity of China, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam today.
