Description
The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington, built for the 1962 World's Fair, which had the theme 'The Age of Space.' Its futuristic design, featuring a saucer-like top on a slender pedestal, was intended to symbolize humanity's space-age aspirations. The tower is 184 meters tall and is built to be extremely stable; its center of gravity is just 1.5 meters above the ground due to a massive underground concrete foundation that weighs as much as the tower itself. In 2018, the Space Needle underwent a 'Century Project' renovation, adding 'The Loupe,' the world's first and only revolving glass floor, allowing visitors to see the tower's structure and the city directly beneath their feet. It remains a symbol of the Pacific Northwest and a triumph of mid-century modern design.
