Description
The Shanghai Tower is the world's third-tallest building (632 meters) and features a unique 120-degree twist in its exterior. This spiral shape isn't just for aesthetics; it was designed to reduce wind loads on the building by 24% during typhoons, which saved the developers an estimated $58 million in structural material costs. The tower is essentially a 'building within a building,' featuring two glass facades. The space between the inner and outer layers creates nine 'sky gardens'—atriums filled with plants and seating that act as public plazas for the people working in the tower. It also holds the record for one of the world's fastest elevators, capable of traveling at 20.5 meters per second (74 km/h).
