Description
The Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower is a distinct landmark in Shanghai's Pudong district. Completed in 1994, its design features 11 spheres of varying sizes, connected by three massive columns. The design is inspired by a verse from the Tang Dynasty poem 'Pipa Song' about pearls falling onto a jade plate. The tower stands 468 meters tall and features a glass-bottomed sightseeing floor at 259 meters, providing visitors with a 'floating' view of the city. The three largest spheres house a revolving restaurant, exhibition halls, and a boutique hotel called the Space Hotel. At night, the tower is illuminated by a complex LED system that changes colors and patterns, making it a central part of the Shanghai skyline's world-famous light show.
