Description
The Old Library at Trinity College Dublin is home to the 'Long Room,' a 65-meter-long gallery built between 1712 and 1732. It is famous for housing 200,000 of the library's oldest books in dark oak carrels. The Long Room features a distinctive barrel-vaulted ceiling, which was added in 1860 to accommodate more books when the original flat ceiling was full. The library's most famous resident is the 'Book of Kells,' a 9th-century illuminated manuscript containing the four Gospels of the New Testament. Along the length of the room are marble busts of famous philosophers and writers, including Jonathan Swift and Aristotle. Interestingly, the Long Room served as a visual inspiration for the Jedi Archives in 'Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,' though the production team never officially credited the library.
