Belgium is a small country in Western Europe, bordered by France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Luxembourg. Its capital, Brussels, is the de facto capital of the European Union and the headquarters of NATO. Belgium is divided into three highly autonomous regions: Flanders in the north (where Dutch is spoken), Wallonia in the south (where French is spoken), and the Brussels-Capital Region. The geography is mostly flat coastal plains in the north, while the south features the rugged and forested Ardennes mountains. Belgium is famous for its chocolate, waffles, and over 1,000 varieties of beer. It has one of the highest densities of railways and highways in the world.
