Singapore is a sovereign island country and city-state in Southeast Asia, located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It consists of one main diamond-shaped island and 63 smaller islets. Because it is a city-state, the entire country is essentially its own capital. Singapore is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. To manage its limited land area, the country has engaged in extensive land reclamation projects, increasing its total land area by about 25% since independence in 1965. Despite its urban density, it is known as a 'City in a Garden' for its abundant greenery and parks, such as the Gardens by the Bay. Singapore is a global financial hub and has one of the world's busiest ports due to its strategic location on the Strait of Malacca. It has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinct seasons and high humidity year-round.
