Description
Angel Falls (Salto Ángel) in Venezuela is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 3,212 feet (979 meters) and a plunge of 2,648 feet. It falls over the edge of the Auyán-tepui mountain in the Canaima National Park. The height is so great that before getting anywhere near the ground, much of the water is evaporated or carried away as a fine mist by strong winds. It is named after Jimmie Angel, a US aviator who was the first person to fly over the falls in 1933. The falls are located in an isolated jungle region and are most commonly visited by air or by a long river trip, making them as remote as they are majestic.
