Iran occupies a unique and strategically vital position in Western Asia. It is the only country in the world that has a coastline on both the Caspian Sea to the north and the Persian Gulf (and Gulf of Oman) to the south. The Caspian Sea is the world's largest inland body of water, often classified as the largest lake, while the Persian Gulf is a critical gateway for the world's oil supply. This dual access gives Iran a bridge-like role between the landlocked nations of Central Asia and the global maritime trade routes of the Indian Ocean. Its northern coast is lush and temperate, while its southern coast is arid and extremely hot, showcasing the country's vast climatic diversity.
