Country
South Africa
Description
South Africa is the only country in the world that is named entirely after its geographical location on a continent. While there are other countries with directional names (like South Sudan or East Timor), South Africa is the most prominent. It is also the only country in the world to have three different capital cities. This unique administrative arrangement splits the government into three branches: Pretoria is the administrative (executive) capital, Cape Town is the legislative capital, and Bloemfontein is the judicial capital. This was a political compromise made when the Union of South Africa was formed in 1910 to balance the interests of the different colonial and Boer states.
