Liechtenstein
Description
Liechtenstein is a tiny, alpine microstate situated between Switzerland and Austria in Central Europe. It is one of only two 'doubly landlocked' countries in the world, meaning it is surrounded entirely by other landlocked countries (the other being Uzbekistan in Asia). Vaduz is the capital city, known for its iconic castle perched on a hillside, which serves as the residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Despite its small size, Liechtenstein is one of the wealthiest countries in the world per capita and is a major financial center. The country is only about 160 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 39,000. It is a principality, meaning it is headed by a monarch. The official language is German, and the country uses the Swiss Franc as its currency. Geographically, it is dominated by the Rhine Valley and the rugged peaks of the Alps, making it a popular destination for winter sports.
