Description
South America is almost entirely surrounded by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but it contains two landlocked nations. Most people remember Bolivia, famously known for its lack of coastline (though it still maintains a navy in anticipation of regaining sea access). The second, often forgotten, landlocked country is Paraguay. Paraguay is often called the 'Heart of America' (Corazón de América) due to its central location on the continent. Despite being landlocked, it has access to the Atlantic Ocean through the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, a series of rivers that allow ships to reach the sea via Argentina and Uruguay. This makes its geography slightly less isolated than it appears on a political map.
