Description
Maine is the only state in the United States that shares a border with exactly one other U.S. state: New Hampshire. To its north and east, Maine is bordered by the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick, and to its south and west, it meets the Atlantic Ocean. This 'geographic isolation' within the union is why Maine has a very distinct culture and a sense of independence. In contrast, every other state in the contiguous US borders at least two others. This makes Maine the 'end of the line' for the East Coast, known for its rugged coastline, lighthouses, and lobster industry.
