Description
Rosa Luxemburg was a Polish-born Marxist theorist, philosopher, and revolutionary socialist who became a naturalized German citizen. She was a founding member of the Spartacus League, which eventually became the Communist Party of Germany. Luxemburg was a sharp critic of both the German Social Democratic Party's support for World War I and the authoritarian tendencies of Vladimir Lenin's Bolsheviks, famously stating that 'freedom is always and exclusively freedom for the one who thinks differently.' She was a brilliant economist whose work 'The Accumulation of Capital' remains a significant Marxist text. Following the failed Spartacist Uprising in 1919, she was captured and executed by the Freikorps. Today, she is remembered as a martyr for democratic socialism and a powerful voice for internationalism and anti-militarism.
