Description
For the sequel 'The Matrix Reloaded,' the Wachowskis wanted a car chase so elaborate that no existing freeway could be closed long enough to film it. As a result, the production built its own 1.5-mile three-lane loop of freeway on an old naval base in Alameda, California. It was one of the most expensive and time-consuming sets in history. The 14-minute chase sequence featured over 300 cars donated by General Motors. The film grossed $742 million and, despite being R-rated, became a massive global hit, setting a new standard for practical action photography in the digital age.
