Description
Jimi Hendrix redefined the electric guitar, turning it into an instrument of infinite sonic possibilities. Though he was American, he found fame in London before returning to the U.S. for a breakout performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. At the end of his set, during 'Wild Thing,' Hendrix knelt before his guitar, doused it in lighter fluid, and set it on fire. This 'sacrificial' moment became one of the most iconic images in rock history. Hendrix used feedback, wah-wah pedals, and distortion as musical tools, creating a psychedelic sound that influenced every guitarist who followed. His 1968 album 'Electric Ladyland' featured the definitive cover of Bob Dylan's 'All Along the Watchtower.' Like other legends of his era, Hendrix died at age 27, having recorded for only four years but changing music forever.
