Before they were Linkin Park, the band was called Xero and later Hybrid Theory. However, they faced legal issues with the name Hybrid Theory as another band had a similar name. Chester Bennington suggested 'Lincoln Park,' as he used to drive past a park of that name in Santa Monica every day on his way to rehearsal. The band loved the name because 'Lincoln Parks' were found in almost every city in America, giving them a sense of being 'local' everywhere. However, the internet domain 'lincolnpark.com' was already taken and too expensive to buy. To secure a website, they slightly altered the spelling to 'Linkin Park' so they could buy 'linkinpark.com.' Their debut album, 'Hybrid Theory,' went on to become the best-selling debut of the 21st century, blending rock, rap, and electronic music.
