Description
The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army' features one of the most recognizable riffs in rock history. Interestingly, many fans mistake the opening sound for a bass guitar, but Jack White actually played a semi-acoustic guitar through a DigiTech Whammy pedal set to drop the pitch by an octave. The title 'Seven Nation Army' was Jack White's childhood mispronunciation of 'The Salvation Army.' The song was originally intended to be a 'backup' riff in case Jack was ever asked to write a James Bond theme. While it only reached number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 initially, it has become a global sporting anthem, chanted by millions in soccer stadiums worldwide. Its simplicity—using only seven notes in the main riff—is credited for its universal appeal and status as a modern garage rock classic.
