Description
The Bee Gees (short for 'Brothers Gibb') were already successful in the 1960s as a Beatles-esque pop group, but they became global icons during the disco era. For the 1977 film 'Saturday Night Fever,' the band wrote and performed hits like 'Stayin' Alive,' 'Night Fever,' and 'How Deep Is Your Love.' The soundtrack became one of the best-selling albums in history and stayed at number one for 24 consecutive weeks. Interestingly, the band wrote the songs in a weekend at a studio in France without having seen a single frame of the movie. 'Stayin' Alive' famously features a drum beat that is actually a looped tape of two bars from 'Night Fever,' as their drummer had to leave for a family emergency. The song’s 103 beats per minute is often used by medical professionals as the ideal tempo for performing CPR.
