Description
McKinley Morganfield, better known as Muddy Waters, was the 'Father of Modern Chicago Blues.' Originally an acoustic guitar player from the Mississippi Delta, he moved to Chicago and plugged in his guitar to be heard over the noise of rowdy city clubs. This transition to electric blues fundamentally changed the sound of the genre and directly paved the way for rock and roll. His 1948 hit 'I Can't Be Satisfied' was a landmark recording for Chess Records. Waters' deep, resonant voice and masterful slide guitar playing influenced a generation of British musicians, most notably the Rolling Stones, who took their name from his song 'Rollin' Stone.' His influence on the development of electric guitar music and the evolution of the blues into a global force cannot be overstated.
