Eric Clapton is the only person to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times (as a member of the Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist). In the mid-1960s, graffiti appeared in London claiming 'Clapton is God,' reflecting his status as the premier blues guitarist of his generation. His fluid, soulful style and his use of 'woman tone' (a warm, distorted sound) redefined electric guitar playing. Clapton’s career has been a series of high-profile bands and successful solo projects, including the 1970 masterpiece 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs' with Derek and the Dominos. He has won 18 Grammy Awards. Clapton has also overcome significant personal tragedies and struggles with addiction, which he explored in his deeply moving 1992 'MTV Unplugged' performance and the song 'Tears in Heaven.'
