Description
Django Reinhardt was a jazz guitarist and composer who developed a unique style known as 'Gypsy Jazz' (Jazz Manouche). He was the first jazz musician of European origin to exert a significant influence on American jazz artists. Perhaps his most remarkable feat was that he played almost all of his solos with only two fingers on his left hand, after the others were paralyzed in a fire. Along with violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he formed the Quintette du Hot Club de France, which became one of the most famous jazz groups in Europe. Reinhardt’s playing was characterized by its incredible speed, melodic inventiveness, and harmonic sophistication. His compositions like 'Minor Swing' and 'Nuages' are jazz standards. He remains a hero to guitarists worldwide, a testament to the idea that physical limitations can be overcome through sheer genius and perseverance.
