Description
Gloria Estefan, along with the Miami Sound Machine, brought Latin rhythms to the global pop mainstream. Their 1985 hit 'Conga' became a worldwide phenomenon, blending Cuban percussion with dance-pop beats. As the most successful crossover artist in Latin music history, Estefan has sold over 100 million records. She also showed incredible resilience after a 1990 tour bus accident left her with a broken back; her comeback performance a year later was a major national event. Estefan has won three Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She paved the way for the 1990s 'Latin Explosion' that launched artists like Ricky Martin and Shakira, making her the 'Queen of Latin Pop.'
