Description
Fleetwood Mac was founded by guitarist Peter Green, who named the band after the two members he wanted in his rhythm section: drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. At the time, Green was a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and he recorded a track called 'Fleetwood Mac' with Mick and John. When he left to start his own band, he invited them to join. Interestingly, John McVie was hesitant and didn't join immediately, so the band performed their first few shows without the person half the name was based on. Green chose the name as a tribute to his colleagues, showing his humble nature. While the band started as a blues-rock group, they achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1970s after moving to California and adding Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to the lineup, resulting in the iconic album 'Rumours.'
