Description
The name 'Led Zeppelin' originated from a joke by Keith Moon and John Entwistle of The Who. When Jimmy Page was discussing forming a supergroup with them, Moon joked that the band would go down like a 'lead zeppelin' (a variation of the phrase 'lead balloon'). When Page actually formed his band in 1968, he remembered the joke. He changed the spelling of 'Lead' to 'Led' at the suggestion of manager Peter Grant, so that people wouldn't mispronounce it as 'leed.' The band went on to become the definitive hard rock group of the 1970s, with their fourth album becoming one of the best-selling records of all time.
