Description
Lars Ulrich, the drummer and co-founder of Metallica, essentially 'stole' the band's name from a friend. In 1981, Ulrich was helping a friend named Ron Quintana brainstorm names for a new metal fan magazine. Quintana's two favorite options were 'Metallica' and 'Metal Mania.' Ulrich realized 'Metallica' was a brilliant name for a band, so he quickly suggested that Quintana use 'Metal Mania' for the magazine, keeping 'Metallica' for himself. Ulrich then teamed up with James Hetfield, and the rest is heavy metal history. Metallica went on to become the most commercially successful metal band ever, selling over 125 million albums worldwide.
