Description
Jim Morrison chose the name 'The Doors' for his band after being inspired by Aldous Huxley’s book 'The Doors of Perception.' Huxley’s title was itself a reference to a line in a poem by William Blake: 'If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.' This literary connection perfectly suited Morrison’s poetic and often psychedelic lyrics. The band became one of the most controversial and influential acts of the 1960s, with hits like 'Light My Fire' and 'The End' cementing Morrison's status as a rock icon until his untimely death in 1971.
