Description
Sergey Rachmaninoff was one of the last great representatives of the Late Romantic style in Russian classical music. A formidable pianist with legendary large hands, he composed some of the most difficult and beautiful works for the instrument. His Piano Concerto No. 2 (1901) is one of the most popular and beloved works in the concerto repertoire, famously written after he overcame a period of deep depression and writer's block through hypnotherapy. Rachmaninoff’s music is known for its lush melodies, dense orchestration, and a sense of Russian melancholy. After the Russian Revolution, he lived in exile in the United States, where he focused on his career as a concert pianist to support his family. His works, including the 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini' and his four piano concertos, remain cornerstones of the classical world, celebrated for their virtuosity and emotional power.
