Description
Tchaikovsky was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting international impression. He is best known for his ballets—'Swan Lake,' 'The Sleeping Beauty,' and 'The Nutcracker' (1892)—which remain the most performed ballets in the world. His music is celebrated for its emotional intensity, soaring melodies, and brilliant orchestration. Tchaikovsky also wrote six symphonies and the famous '1812 Overture,' which features real cannons. Despite his professional success, he struggled with his personal life, particularly his sexuality and bouts of depression. His final work, Symphony No. 6 ('Pathétique'), premiered just nine days before his mysterious death in 1893. Tchaikovsky’s ability to combine Russian folk elements with Western classical structures created a unique sound that remains universally beloved for its passion and drama.
