Description
Nat King Cole was a triple-threat talent: a world-class jazz pianist, a beloved pop singer, and a trailblazing television host. His smooth, baritone voice earned him hits like 'Unforgettable' and 'The Christmas Song.' In 1956, he became the first Black performer to host his own variety show on national television, 'The Nat King Cole Show.' Despite his immense popularity, he faced significant racism, including being attacked on stage in Alabama and having the show canceled due to a lack of national sponsors. Cole’s quiet dignity and immense musicality broke down racial barriers in the entertainment industry. His transition from a respected jazz trio leader to a global pop icon paved the way for future generations of Black crossover artists.
