Description
Paco de Lucía was a Spanish guitar virtuoso who revolutionized flamenco music. He was credited with modernizing the genre by incorporating jazz, pop, and classical elements while maintaining the deep soul of traditional flamenco. His 1973 rumba 'Entre dos aguas' became an international hit and brought flamenco to a mainstream audience. De Lucía was also a pioneer of 'New Flamenco,' collaborating with jazz fusion artists like John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola in the famous Guitar Trio. He was responsible for introducing the Peruvian instrument, the cajón, into flamenco, which has since become a standard part of the genre's percussion. Known for his staggering speed and technical precision, de Lucía is considered the greatest flamenco guitarist of all time and a national treasure of Spain.
