Description
Archaeologists in Germany discovered what is widely considered the world's oldest known musical instrument: a flute made from a vulture's wing bone. Found in the Hohle Fels cave in the Swabian Jura region, the flute dates back approximately 35,000 to 40,000 years. This discovery suggests that early humans had already developed a sophisticated musical culture shortly after migrating to Europe. The flute features five finger holes and a V-shaped notch at one end for blowing. Other flutes made from mammoth ivory were also found in the same region. These artifacts provide insight into the social structure and cognitive abilities of early Homo sapiens, showing that music was likely used for social bonding or religious rituals long before the dawn of civilization as we know it today.
