Description

On 10 June 1956, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck an area spanning Kabul, Baghlan, and the Hindu Kush. The quake caused widespread destruction and heavy casualties. Villages reported collapsed homes, landslides, and major disruptions to transportation routes. Rescue efforts were difficult due to rugged terrain and damaged roadways. The disaster remains one of the most severe earthquakes recorded in Afghanistan during the twentieth century.
