On 26 May 2007 insurgent forces launched Operation Kamin in Kandahar Province, southern Afghanistan, aiming to ambush Afghan National Police and NATO-supported units. Initial engagements killed two police officers and wounded three; subsequent attacks over the next days killed more. The operation demonstrated the evolving tactics of the insurgency: targeted ambushes against security forces in remote provinces. The growing frequency of such operations indicated that insurgents were no longer hiding solely in mountainous hideouts but actively seeking out engagements. This shift forced coalition and Afghan forces to adapt tactics accordingly.
