On 2 June 1933, an assassination attempt targeted members of former King Amanullah Khan’s family while they lived in Italy. Although the king had abdicated and left Afghanistan in 1929, Afghan politics remained deeply polarized by his reforms. The attack heightened concern among international observers over Afghanistan’s ongoing internal disputes. Many Afghans viewed the event as a reminder of the lingering tensions between traditionalists and modernizers. The attempt ultimately influenced debates within Afghanistan about succession and future governance.
