On 8 June 2001, Northern Alliance fighters advanced into parts of Badakhshan Province and captured Raghistan District from Taliban control. The operation was part of a wider push to regain territory months before the events that reshaped global conflict later that year. Local commanders coordinated ground maneuvers supported by experienced units familiar with the region’s geography. Taliban forces withdrew after sustained pressure. The advancement strengthened anti Taliban positions along important northeastern corridors.
