On 4 June 1970, Afghanistan began an archival expansion project to preserve historic manuscripts and rare documents. The program aimed to catalog ancient records from Kabul, Herat, and other regions. Many original works were brought under professional conservation for the first time. Scholars welcomed the initiative because it supported research related to Afghan identity, literature, and pre-modern governance. Although later decades brought conflict, this project marked a milestone for cultural preservation.
