On 18 June 1974, Afghan cultural authorities approved an expansion initiative for the National Museum in Kabul. The plan focused on enlarging storage capacity for archaeological artifacts recovered from major excavation sites. It also supported the creation of new exhibit spaces to display items from pre-Islamic and Islamic periods. Scholars anticipated that the expansion would strengthen research opportunities. Although political events later interrupted progress, the initiative reflected national pride in Afghanistan’s historical heritage.
