On 24 June 1983, Soviet-backed Afghan government forces launched operations near Khost to reclaim supply routes threatened by mujahideen units. The offensive included air support and coordinated ground maneuvers. Resistance fighters used the region’s terrain to mount counterattacks. The fighting caused heavy disruptions to transportation networks. Control of the area remained contested throughout the war.
