On January 28, 2010, representatives from more than 70 countries met in London to discuss Afghanistan’s future governance and security strategy. The conference was co-hosted by the United Kingdom, Afghanistan, and the United Nations. Delegates agreed on a timetable to transition security control to Afghan forces and develop a reintegration plan for insurgents. The event marked a turning point in international efforts to stabilize Afghanistan. It also reaffirmed commitments to economic reconstruction and good governance initiatives.
