On 11 July 2016, Taliban fighters attacked multiple highway security posts in Zabul Province. The assault targeted key sections of the Kabul–Kandahar highway, one of Afghanistan’s most important transport routes. Afghan security forces exchanged heavy gunfire with insurgents throughout the day. The attack disrupted traffic and caused delays for commercial transport. It also underscored ongoing threats to national road networks.
