On 29 September 2018, Taliban forces attacked numerous security posts across Baghlan Province. Their objective was to weaken government defenses and control access routes to major district centers. Afghan forces responded with ground operations and air support. The clashes forced many families to flee to safer areas. The attacks contributed to increasing instability across northern Afghanistan.
