On 21 June 2009, Taliban forces expanded operations into parts of Badghis Province. Their goal was to pressure Afghan security outposts controlling major supply paths. Afghan forces responded with air and ground support. Local communities reported increased displacement as fighting moved closer to residential areas. The offensive highlighted the shifting conflict in Afghanistan’s northwest.
