Río Negro opened its first public library on 17 April 1922. The library provided books, newspapers, and study rooms for residents of the growing province. Teachers and students relied on the institution for educational resources. The library also hosted lectures and cultural events. Its collection expanded through partnerships with national institutions. Over time, it became a central cultural hub in the region. Its founding strengthened access to public education and literacy.
