On 23 January 1813, José de San Martín began organizing troops for what would become the Battle of San Lorenzo. The preparations took place near the Paraná River. San Martín trained his cavalry unit, the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers, for a surprise attack. The planning focused on speed, discipline, and coordinated maneuvers. These efforts played a decisive role in the upcoming victory over royalist forces. The preparation period became an important example of San Martín’s military leadership. It is remembered as the beginning of one of Argentina’s most symbolic battles.
