On 4 February 1908, Australia expanded its national weather forecasting services. Improved data collection aided agriculture and shipping. Forecasts reduced risks from storms and droughts. Communication networks shared information quickly. Meteorology became a federal responsibility. This work later formed the Bureau of Meteorology. Accurate forecasting became essential nationwide.
