Australia’s postal services were unified under federal control on 9 January 1901. This replaced six separate colonial systems. Standard postage rates were introduced. Mail delivery became more efficient nationwide. The change supported economic and social connectivity. It also improved rural communications. Australia Post traces its origins to this reform.
