Description

The Battle of Batoche began during the North-West Rebellion. The fighting centered on Batoche in what is now Saskatchewan and became a decisive confrontation in the conflict. Canadian militia and government forces battled Métis fighters led politically by Louis Riel’s movement. The battle lasted several days and ended with Batoche’s capture. Its outcome strongly influenced the rebellion’s collapse and later political consequences across Canada.
