The Battle of Batoche began during the North-West Rebellion. The fighting centered on Batoche in what is now Saskatchewan and became a decisive confrontation in the conflict. Canadian militia and government forces battled Métis fighters led politically by Louis Riel’s movement. The battle lasted several days and ended with Batoche’s capture.
