Six American diplomats who had been hiding in Tehran, escaped Iran using Canadian passports and a cover story. The operation is widely known as the “Canadian Caper.” Canadian officials helped plan and carry out the escape during the Iran hostage crisis. The group boarded a flight out of Iran and safely left the country that day. The event later became one of Canada’s most famous diplomatic intelligence successes.
