Bill C-459 received Royal Assent, creating the Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (“Holodomor”) Memorial Day Act. The law established a memorial day and formally recognized the Holodomor as an act of genocide. This was an important cultural and historical recognition for Ukrainian Canadians and for public remembrance in Canada. Royal Assent made the commemorative law official.
